Day 1: Arrival in Arusha / Transfer to Meru Gate – Miriakamba Hut (Approx. 5–6 hours, 1,500m → 2,500m)
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, your experienced Tanzanian guide will welcome you and transfer you to Meru Gate. After registration, the trek begins, entering dense montane forest alive with monkeys, birds, and tropical vegetation, gradually ascending the southern slopes. The trail offers frequent stops for hydration, acclimatization, and photography, providing time to enjoy the forest’s beauty. By afternoon, you will arrive at Miriakamba Hut, where tents are set up and lunch is served. Afternoon activities include short acclimatization hikes and photography opportunities, soaking in panoramic views of Kilimanjaro in the distance. Dinner is served early, followed by a briefing on the next day’s longer trek to Saddle Hut and the summit.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut – Summit – Descent to Miriakamba Hut (Approx. 9–10 hours, 2,500m → 4,566m → 2,500m)
Today is the summit day. The ascent begins early in the morning, trekking through alpine desert and rocky terrain toward Saddle Hut and then Mount Meru Summit (4,566m). Along the way, enjoy stunning views of Kilimanjaro, Meru’s crater, and the surrounding Great Rift Valley, offering incredible photo opportunities. Reach the summit for celebration, photography, and reflection, marking a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Carefully descend to Saddle Hut, then continue down to Miriakamba Hut, passing through moorland and montane forest, witnessing the mountain’s changing ecosystems. Dinner is served upon arrival, and the evening is for rest and recounting the summit experience with guides and fellow trekkers.
Day 3: Miriakamba Hut – Meru Gate – Departure (Approx. 5–6 hours, 2,500m → 1,500m)
After breakfast, complete the final trek to Meru Gate, enjoying the lush montane forest and highland scenery along the way. Upon arrival, celebrate your accomplishment with your guides and receive recognition for completing the trek. Transfer back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport, reflecting on the spectacular views, wildlife, and memories created. The drive includes scenic farmland, villages, and rivers, easing your transition back to lower altitudes. Upon arrival, you can relax at a hotel, enjoy optional spa treatments, or a celebratory meal. This concludes your 3-day Mount Meru adventure, leaving lasting memories of Tanzania’s dramatic landscapes and wilderness.
