Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro / Transfer to Umbwe Gate

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be greeted by your expert Tanzanian guide and transferred toward Umbwe Gate, located on Kilimanjaro’s southern side. The scenic drive showcases rolling hills, coffee farms, and traditional villages, providing an introduction to Tanzania’s diverse landscapes. Upon arrival, enjoy a comprehensive briefing covering safety, equipment, and trekking expectations. Overnight accommodation will be at a comfortable lodge near Umbwe Gate, allowing you to rest and acclimatize before the trek begins. Day 2: Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave Camp (Approx. 5–6 hours, 1,860m → 2,750m)

After breakfast, your trek officially begins at Umbwe Gate, entering dense rainforest filled with mosses, ferns, and vibrant birdlife. The trail ascends steeply, making Umbwe the most challenging and direct route on Kilimanjaro, suited for experienced trekkers. Along the way, enjoy short rest stops for photos, hydration, and acclimatization. By midday, arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp, a serene campsite surrounded by forest, providing a base for relaxation and light acclimatization hikes. Dinner is served in camp, followed by a briefing on tomorrow’s trek, ensuring every climber is prepared mentally and physically. Day 3: Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp (Approx. 6–7 hours, 2,750m → 3,950m)

Today’s trek takes you out of the rainforest into the heath and moorland zone, where giant heathers and lobelias dominate the landscape. The steep trail ascends gradually toward the famous Barranco Wall, one of Kilimanjaro’s most iconic features. Along the way, your guide provides insights into Kilimanjaro’s geology, flora, and fauna, enriching the trekking experience. By afternoon, you will reach Barranco Camp, nestled at the base of the wall, offering breathtaking views of glacial valleys and volcanic ridges. Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Valley Camp (Approx. 4–5 hours, 3,950m → 4,035m)

After conquering the wall, the trail meanders through alpine desert and rocky ridges, leading to Karanga Valley Camp. Today’s trek is shorter, allowing for extra rest and acclimatization before the summit approach. Tea and snacks are served en route, giving time to admire glaciers, ridges, and expansive valleys. Day 5: Karanga Valley Camp – Barafu Camp (Approx. 3–4 hours, 4,035m → 4,640m)

Today’s hike is a steady ascent to Barafu Camp, the base for your summit attempt. The landscape is stark alpine desert with minimal vegetation, with dramatic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Once at Barafu Camp, rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight summit climb, ensuring your gear and clothing are ready. Dinner is served early, emphasizing high-energy meals to sustain you during the long climb. Your guide conducts a final summit briefing, including pacing strategies, safety, and motivational tips. Sleep early to maximize rest before the most demanding and rewarding day of the trek.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp (Approx. 9–10 hours, 4,640m → 5,895m → 3,100m)

The summit trek begins around midnight, trekking through the dark, cold alpine desert under the stars toward Stella Point and Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Witness the sunrise over the African plains, a truly unforgettable reward for your overnight climb. After reaching the summit, celebrate with photos, reflection, and the joy of accomplishment. Carefully descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest and refreshments, then continue down to Mweka Camp. Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Departure
